{Feature Friday} White Mischief Bridal

Happy Friday!

We hope you are well on this grey and cold day and eagerly awaiting the weekend! I’m sure many of you have got your first wedding dress appointments, or going for a second fitting…OR looking to book somewhere for your first look.

I was so excited when I booked my first appointment.  I don’t know why, but I guess it was because it all suddenly seemed real.  I, Natalie, going with my mum to look for the most indulgent and beautiful dress I would ever buy! Now, this was no easy feat.  I searched high and low to find the type of dress that I thought I would want, narrowed down the designers that I adored and even those overly-expensive ones (when else would I get the opportunity to wear something that only celebrities can wear?!?) Anyway, I decided early on that I wanted to purchase my dress in Brighton – the place where my fiancé and I had our first mini-holiday and also where we got engaged and chose my engagement ring together! hehe! Yes, call me a soppy romantic – I wouldn’t disagree with you.  I found a designer whose dresses I was very keen on (my experience with that boutique wasn’t quite as great as I had hoped) BUT I then stumbled across two boutiques that had the most divine range of dresses and styles that I loved.  The first appointment was booked at Mischief Bridal.  The fact that I am telling you about them, just shows how impressed I was. So, let me introduce you to this gorgeous boutique and hand you over to Lorna, who actually was the patient and lovely lady who helped me into my very first wedding dress (a Naomi Neoh!!).

At White Mischief Bridal you will find a cutting edge selection of Designer Wedding dresses and wedding accessories from our carefully chosen bridal designers – all under one roof. Situated in the heart of Sussex, only 10 miles from Brighton, we’ll provide you with trend setting designer dresses from some of Europes and the UK’s favourite Wedding Dress designers.

An eclectic collection can be found in store from Augusta Jones, Jenny Packham, Jesus Peiro, Caroline Castigliano, VWDC by Charlie Brear, Naomi Neoh, Lusan Mandongus, Blue by Enzoani, Eliza Jane Howell, Lara Hannah, LouLou and more. With these Wedding Dress designers we have ensured you have the versatility and flexibility to create your own individual look whether classic or contemporary.

{Wedding Wednesday} Kimberley & Jamie’s Engagement Shoot at Hylands House!

Today, we’re delighted to be showcasing a gorgeous engagement shoot from a self-confessed anti-bride! Believe it or not, planning a wedding isn’t everyone’s idea of fun and this couple epitomise those who walk down that aisle only for the right reasons – for love. Not being a fan of the spotlight, the idea of an engagement shoot was, for Kimberley & James, an uncomfortable idea. But, of course, we all know that a good photographer can easily banish that awkwardness and get the best from a clearly very happy couple – and that’s just what Emma from Bloomwood Photography did! Over to the bride & groom-to-be for their story!

Bloomwood Photography

Jamie and I met at 16. We were both at the same college and had no intention of settling down. 8 years, 2 houses, several faraway holidays and a dog later I was stood at the top of the Burj Al Arab being presented with a diamond ring on the sly. No down on one knee, no rose in the teeth, no string quartet. No fuss. No muss – much  like the rest of our relationship, but perfect for us.

Kimberley & Jamie-12

As a die hard anti bride the thought of planning a wedding filled me with dread and nausea in equal measure as well as much eye rolling and sighing, but within days I was up to my eyeballs in venues, centre pieces, favours and flowers and to my surprise, ( and everyone elses) in my element!
The one thing I didn’t waver into my manic wedding planning was an engagement shoot. As a bridal virgin I had no concept of what it entailed let alone if it was ‘me’ (or ‘ us’ should I say! ) but when Emma at Bloomwood photography called to say that I had won an engagement shoot, courtesy of a flippant competition entry one sunday afternoon ( who knew people genuinely gave such extravagant  prizes away!) at non other than our wedding venue,  the gorgeous Hylands House, I felt myself getting excited at the prospect of formally remembering our previously casual engagement.
Kimberley & Jamie-14
Emma made us both feel incredibly comfortable and encouraged us to embrace the spotlight, something previously avoided by the both of us. Thank god we listened and went for it as we were left with an array of both fun and formal images to keep forever, reminding us in the best possible way of our pre wedding celebrations. We framed as many as we could and have never received so many compliments from our family and friends, most of whom nabbed some pictures from the shoot themselves. Our next dilemma will be replacing Emma’s engagement pictures ( a tough act to follow) with our actual wedding collection, courtesy again of Emma of course.
Huge thanks for Kimberley & Jamie for sharing your beautiful pictures and, of course, to Bloomwood Photography for your gorgeous work, as always!
Do you have an engagement shoot planned? Were you nervous about the idea at first? Let us know your experiences too!

{Feature Friday} Foxley Flowers

Good Morning!

Wowee isn’t it FREEZING? However, there is something about Winter that I just love, probably as it’s another excuse to go clothes shopping for that all important ‘warm coat’ (to add the the 500 other ones in my wardrobe). Also, we are one step closer to Christmas and I think it’s only so many sleeps until Christmas Day 😀 … Anyway, enough of that! Feature Friday is always dedicated to the fabulous suppliers that have that something special that gives weddings that va-va-voom! So, this week we are turning our focus to Foxley Flowers.  So, without further ado, let me introduce you to Laura of Foxley Flowers.

Ps. LOVE the first wedding pic!

{Feature Friday} Tobi Hannah Short Wedding Dresses

Thank goodness it’s Friday! We’re super excited over at A Vintage Wedding Guide today about this weekend! We’ll delighted to be heading off to Chelsea for the Chosen Wedding Fair and can’t wait to meet lots of lovely brides and grooms as well as catch up with other wonderful wedding suppliers! Be sure to pop along & see us if you’re coming along!

Now, for today’s post! We’ve been doing a lot of swooning over wedding dresses at the moment. After Brides The Show, seeing all those beautiful gowns on the catwalk, I’ve been particularly interested in a few different designers who design the most amazing and unique wedding dresses. And today, we’re focussing on the great short wedding dresses from the wonderful Tobi Hannah!

Tobi Hannah Wall

If you’re considering a short wedding dress, these are a perfect choice! Modern, fashion-led designs but with a vintage twist, the dresses are classic but have a very innovative edge. I LOVE this dress – with the very apt name: Amaze!

Tobi Hannah Amaze

This dress is my absolutely favourite. When I was a teenager, I had a slight obsession with John Lennon & convinced myself that I’d have a Yoko inspired outfit with a short white skirt and long boots! That didn’t quite happen, but I would definitely consider this dress – the lace is utterly beautiful and it’s incredibly stylish.

Tobi Hannah Edith Dress

As you can tell, I’m a huge Tobi Hannah fan! Have a browse of the rest of the collection & let us know if you’re opting for a short dress! It’s the future of wedding dresses!

{Feature Friday} Chosen Boutique Wedding Fair

It’s Friiiiiday!

DATE FOR YOUR DIARY… Sunday 27th October 2013, Chelsea Old Town Hall!

We love a wedding fair, over here at AVWQ HQ, so we thought we would let you into a little secret.  Chosen Wedding Boutique Wedding Fair, is a “New Kind of Wedding Affair” and we are even exhibiting at it on Sunday 27th October 2013. “What makes it so different from every other wedding fair?” – I hear you cry. Well, we spoke to Kiki (the creator behind ‘Chosen‘) so we could find out more about this wedding fair…

Chosen was created with the sole aim of bringing a fresh and exciting stance on the average wedding fair. Our aim is to curate an event that showcases new and emerging talent and local designers who offer personal, bespoke and original idea services.

Ranging from individual hand-makers and designers, to bespoke design houses, presenting an event that offers a range of English Heritage options, items that become treasures, have stories and are passed through generations to come. An event that doesn’t necessarily sit within one lone category or style, that offers brides-to-be the opportunity to meet with the designers themselves, to have a personal conversation and discover what it is that could help them put their very own personality and design into their day.  An event designed specifically for YOU!

Chosen-Weddings-by-Nicola-and-Glen-104 We hold the belief that every wedding should be as individual as the bride and groom themselves, be that vintage styled, classical, contemporary or a lovely combination of many. What we hope to offer is a fresh and fun form of discovery.

Its so important to us that our guests are put at ease, encouraged to discover and interact and generally experience the fun that we believe should be encouraged throughout every step of planning your big day.

For our October Chelsea event our theme is ‘Love Letter’ and we need YOU to help this work! We are searching for your love stories – to be published at the event on our  ‘Love Wall’. We will also have a map for you to pin point where your romantic moments have happened around the city – and if you attend on the day to view your published letter and enjoy the event and entertainment, we will enter you into a draw of fab prizes, discounts and gifts! On top of all of that we will be publishing a love letter directly from Chosen to all Brides who visit on the day full of priceless top tips from bloggers and exhibitors in the wedding industry to help you with your planning.  Please email them to us here –

{Feature Friday} Paola De Paola Photography

Hello there, you lovely wedding folk!

Today, we are delighted to be welcoming another seriously fabulous supplier to our A Vintage Wedding Guide family, Paola de Paola Photography.  As you know, we are sure to only provide the very best for you, so you can be sure that our suppliers are top notch!

Following on from our Italian romance on Wedding Wednesday, we introduce you to the very talented, Paola…

Hi, I’m Paola a wedding photographer based in London. Originally from Italy, I was born in Verona,

the romantic love town.

My passion for photography goes back to the day of films. After a Fine Art degree, I moved to London where I fell in love (with my husband, but before that with the cultural diversity that this special town has to offer).
I initially worked as a photographer for a record company and music magazines. I later joined Getty Images’ high end retouching team and I consequently decided that my love for photography needed to be fully expressed. This is when Paola De Paola Weddings was born.
I am a romantic daydreamer. I love diversity and creativity. My great inspiration is Martin Parr, I love catching the ‘moment’. I’m a visual storyteller and I really enjoy talking to people. I find it exciting, re-inventing and re-using everyday life objects.
I’m very respectful of people’s privacy and this is why I’m very discreet when photographing weddings.
Lighting is a core element in my photography and I love experimenting with it.
I’m a creative, and fun. My style is modern, documentary but with a vintage twist. I love the retro look, but keep everything contemporary. I absolutely love different, eclectic, vibrant, unusual, unique people.
All my wedding photography packages include a love/engagement photo shoot, I truly believe that is a fantastic way to get to know the couple before the BIG day.
Don’t be shy, contact me, even just for a friendly chat!
Welcome, welcome, welcome! See, I told you she was talented.  Head on over to Paola’s website to see more of her gorgeous work and get in touch with her about being your wedding photographer.
Remember, you can also follow Paola on Twitter and Facebook!
